Here's a closer look...
I've never cooked squid before, and certainly didn't know the proper method. Since my son had previously enjoyed teriyaki squid I figured I'd marinade them in teriyaki sauce...
I stuck all the meat on kabobs and also cooked a bunch of vegetables. Finally, we got to eat!
Our daughter eating her first squid |
It couldn't have gone better! Our daughter ate this whole kabob plus more. Of course our son ate several. I ate 2 (tastes kind of like chicken!) No meat went to waste. I did learn that cooking squid is very similar to cooking shrimp. When they are raw, they are somewhat translucent. When they are cooked through, they turn whitish. If overcooked or dry they become pretty rubbery, but when cooked just right, they taste pretty good!
Fun night with the barbecue. We'll surely miss many fun seafood options in the US... or we'll have to do some more adventurous fishing. ;)
